Emerging evidence from clinical\r\ntrials suggests that bothacupunctureandTai Chimind\r\nbody therapies are safe and effective treatments for\r\nosteoarthritis.\r\n\r\nAcupuncture has effects over and above those of ââ?¬Ë?sham\r\nacupunctureââ?¬â?¢ and the most robust evidence to date\r\ndemonstrates that acupuncture does have shortterm\r\nbenefits and is a reasonable referral option for patients\r\nwithsymptomaticosteoarthritis. Tai Chi is amindbody\r\nexercise that enhances cardiovascular fitness, muscular\r\nstrength,balance,andphysicalfunction.Italsoappearsto\r\nbe associated with reduced stress and anxiety and\r\ndepression,aswellasimprovedqualityoflife.Thus,Tai\r\nChi may be safely recommended to patients with\r\nosteoarthritisasacomplementaryandalternativemedical\r\napproachtoaffectpatientwellbeing.\r\n\r\nIntegrativeapproachescombinethe best of conventional\r\nmedicineandcomplementaryandalternativemedicineto\r\nultimately improve patient care. These modalities may\r\nlead to the development of better disease modifying\r\nstrategiesthatcouldimprovesymptomsanddecreasethe\r\nprogression of osteoarthritis.
